I was born and raised in Amsterdam, where I completed my A levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. I then studied Bioengineering, completing a Bachelor鈥檚 and Master鈥檚 degree, and continued to achieve a first-class Master鈥檚 degree in Neurosciences. I went on to do a PhD in Molecular Neuroscience at the VU University in Amsterdam. After finishing my PhD, I moved to London and have been working in different teaching roles ever since.

What I love most about tutoring, is getting to know a student and being able to help them with their personal learning goals. As I have many years of tutoring experience, I can quickly recognise what to focus on with a new student. I also know the important topics of the curriculum and what a teacher is looking for in a test. I use this knowledge to focus and organise a student鈥檚 learning and I have a lot of tips and tricks for exam preparation.

My personal tutoring approach is highly interactive. Learning is an active process, therefore my student will be busy answering questions, doing exercises, and summarising the learned topics. Having a background in neuroscience, I know repetition is very important for the learning process. Therefore I often repeat topics a student struggled with so that over time the information will be engraved in their memory.

I use a lot of examples and analogies in my teaching. This will help a student to understand the topic, to bring the topic alive, and to see the relevance of the topic. It will also add some fun to the lesson. I believe that when a student understands why they are learning a topic, and if they are having fun while learning, they will achieve their best results.

I work as a freelance tutor and science educator. One evening per week I teach science adult classes at Imperial College London. Next to that, I work on a flexible basis as a tutor and deliver science workshops at primary schools. I am currently in the last year of my Master's in Education from Imperial College London.
