Lee is a qualified teacher with over 25 years experience working in independent schools. He teaches English and Maths at primary level, as well as Spanish up to GCSE. In addition to his PGCE, Lee also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Special Educational Needs.

About Lee:

Experience

With over 25 years’ experience in the independent sector, I specialise in preparing pupils for competitive entrance to leading UK schools at 7+, 8+, 11+ and 13+. Having taught extensively across this full age range, I am highly experienced in supporting younger pupils at the start of their prep school journey—developing their literacy, numeracy, and reasoning skills in ways that build curiosity, independence, and academic confidence from the outset. I also teach English and Spanish through to GCSE, focusing on developing high-level grammatical accuracy, critical thinking, and articulate written expression. My teaching equips students with the linguistic and analytical skills required for top-grade success.

I have successfully guided students through the ISEB pre-tests, Common Entrance, and school-specific entrance exams, as well as providing expert coaching for interviews. As a fully qualified English Speaking Board (ESB) examiner, I am uniquely placed to support pupils in developing the confidence, clarity, and communication skills needed to shine in spoken assessments.

Many of my pupils have gone on to secure places at some of the UK’s most prestigious schools, including Eton, Harrow, Winchester, Westminster, Charterhouse, Cheltenham Ladies’ College, Latymer Upper, Godolphin, St Paul’s Boys, St Paul’s Girls, Wellington College, and City of London.

In addition, I have prepared students for a wide range of further leading independent and boarding schools, such as Tonbridge, Marlborough, Sevenoaks, Wycombe Abbey, Francis Holland, Brighton College, UCS, Highgate, Habs Boys, Dulwich College, Alleyn’s, Queen’s Gate, Wetherby Prep, Wetherby Pembridge, Thomas’s College, Sherborne (Boys), and Ludgrove Prep. I also support international pupils relocating to the UK or studying abroad ensuring they are fully equipped to navigate the demands of 7+, 8+, 11+, ISEB Pre-Test, 13+/Common Entrance, scholarship assessments, GCSE/IGCSE and EAL pathways.

Beyond the UK, I have extensive experience as an international tutor, working successfully online with students in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. This global perspective has enabled me to understand and respond to the needs of pupils from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, equipping them with the skills and confidence to thrive in competitive academic environments.

Over my career, I have also held senior pastoral and academic leadership roles, which have given me a deep understanding of how to support students holistically—academically, personally, and socially. This depth and range of experience, in subjects and ages, allows me to see the whole child clearly—identifying their strengths, understanding their challenges, and helping them grow into the confident, capable learners they can be.

Biography

Privately educated in Staffordshire, I developed a lifelong appreciation of the transformative power of education. At school I achieved A levels in English Literature, Spanish, History, and General Studies before going on to study Spanish and Media at the University of Leeds, where I graduated with a 2:1 BA (Hons). My degree included a year abroad in Barcelona and Madrid, where I combined academic study with teaching English, deepening both my subject knowledge and cultural awareness.

Following this, I completed my PGCE at the University of Manchester and began a rewarding 25-year career in leading independent schools. During this time, I taught across Key Stages 2–5 and held senior leadership roles in academic, sporting, and pastoral areas, including Head of Modern Foreign Languages, Head of Humanities, and Head of Pastoral Care. To strengthen my professional practice, I also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Special Educational Needs, which has enhanced my ability to adapt teaching for individual learners.

With three university-level qualifications, a wealth of classroom experience, and a strong record of success in preparing pupils for competitive schools, I now work as a full-time international tutor. I am proud to have supported students from the UK, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East in gaining entry to many of the UK’s most prestigious schools, while helping them to grow in confidence, independence, and resilience along the way.

Approach to Tutoring

Every student has a unique way of learning, and my role as a tutor is to unlock their potential by tailoring lessons to their needs, goals, and personality. My approach is structured yet flexible: I provide clear, step-by-step guidance while also encouraging pupils to think independently and take ownership of their learning.

Confidence-building is at the heart of my work. I ensure that students are not only academically prepared for their exams but also equipped with the study skills, focus, and resilience that underpin long-term success. Parents and pupils alike value my calm, approachable style, combined with the high expectations and academic challenge that lead to excellent results.

When not tutoring

When I’m not tutoring, I enjoy reading classic literature, visiting the theatre and cinema with my family, and travelling widely to experience new cultures. I am also a keen runner, taking part in everything from local fun runs to marathons, and I find that the discipline and focus of running mirrors my approach to teaching. Most of all, I value time spent with my family, sharing experiences and exploring the world together.
